First reason is that I am interested in entrepreneurship research. I would like to have an experience of exchanging views and ideas with as many entrepreneurs as possible. Second reason is that I see business coaching as a possible source of revenue because my research may result in a publication and I may grow my readership. Third I would like to use the business that I am mentoring as an opportunity to invest my funds or my fell angels’ funds. Fourth I would like to become an entrepreneur too and enjoy the journey while I am already enjoying the journey of a practising business advisor and consultant.
I am auditor. I love seeking evidence to come to a settled conclusion. A start up is simply a repeatable business model that is scalable. A start up founder needs to have not solution mind set but problem mind set. A founder needs to devise a focused experimental design to seek evidence to confirm the problem before attempting to find a solution. I will encourage the founder not to lose patience to jump at solution before testing the problem or pain or pleasure hypothesis I will contribute immensely to the process of problem – solution fit. Experimental design continues to be important for product market fit or for growth hacking, although the context is different.
I am a business consultant. I can assist the founder with team management skills and organization building methods. I can devise fund raising and exit strategies and prepare summary term sheets.
While I am good at HR, organisation building and finance, I don’t have industry expertise. I would like to seek specific expertise in any growing industry, manufacturing or retail or technology. So the trade off for giving away general management, HR and finance skills is to gain specific industry expertise so that I can see myself becoming a successful entrepreneur.
