Hello, my name is Nafisa Lawal Idris, and as a data scientist with a strong background in data analytics, I am deeply passionate about mentoring and supporting aspiring individuals in this field. The opportunity to contribute to the VC4A Mentor Driven Capital Africa aligns perfectly with my personal and professional goals.
I am driven by the belief in the importance of fostering the growth and empowerment of young professionals, particularly in STEM fields. Data science and analytics offer immense potential and exciting career opportunities. Through mentoring within the VC4A community, I aim to play a significant role in shaping the next generation of leaders in these domains.
One of my primary areas of interest and focus is leveraging data analytics and data science techniques to solve real-world challenges. I have gained practical experience applying these skills across diverse sectors, including EdTech, Civil Service, Tech NGO, Software Company and event management. However, my true passion lies in harnessing the power of data analytics and data science for positive social and environmental impact. I firmly believe that these fields possess the ability to create transformative change in the world.
Complementing my professional experience, I possess a strong educational background in mathematics and statistics. These foundations have been crucial in my own journey as a data scientist. I am enthusiastic about sharing my knowledge and expertise, particularly with individuals who are embarking on their own paths in data analytics and data science.
As a mentor at VC4A Mentor Driven Capital Africa, my objective is to utilise my skills and experiences to support and guide community members in developing the necessary knowledge and confidence to excel in these dynamic fields. I am committed to providing ongoing support, guidance, and encouragement to help these talented individuals unlock their full potential and make a meaningful impact in their careers.
I mentor because I believe in the power of giving back to the startup ecosystem and supporting the next generation of entrepreneurs. Having personally benefited from the guidance and mentorship of others, I feel a strong sense of responsibility to pay it forward and help others achieve their own success.
Beyond personal fulfillment, mentorship provides an opportunity for continuous learning. By engaging with entrepreneurs from various industries and business sectors, I gain valuable insights into different markets, trends, and emerging technologies. This exposure allows me to stay updated and expand my knowledge base, which is beneficial for my own professional growth.
Moreover, mentorship allows me to scout for new opportunities in engaging as an advisor or securing a board seat. By actively supporting and guiding promising entrepreneurs, I can identify potential collaborations or investment opportunities that align with my own interests and the organization I represent. Mentorship opens doors to meaningful connections and partnerships that can create mutually beneficial outcomes for both parties involved.
Ultimately, my motivation for mentoring goes beyond personal gain. I firmly believe that a thriving startup ecosystem is essential for fostering creativity, innovation, and economic growth. By actively participating as a mentor, I contribute to building a robust ecosystem where entrepreneurs can thrive, ideas can flourish, and positive change can be realized. Through mentorship, I aim to make a lasting impact on the lives and careers of emerging entrepreneurs, while also fostering a dynamic and vibrant startup community.
