My name is Phyllis Chibisa and I have been a certified Drone Pilot and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle and System operator for over 2 years. I am one of the top female drone pilots in Malawi with experience in flying beyond visual line of sight. I have a wide array of technical skills when it comes to drone technology. However, I also have extensive experience in setting up drone logistics operations and management of compliance in terms of stakeholders while maintaining safety of operations and crew resource management in Malawi and Kenya. I also have a passion for the ethical use of technology innovations in the humanitarian aid sector. I believe my experience and interests would make me the right person to mentor women and girls interested in setting up drone projects, especially in remote areas in Africa.
I would like to position myself as an industry leader when it comes to Drones for Good in Africa. I believe Africa is ripe with talent but is lacking in the integration of hard tech skills with project management, business strategy, and entrepreneurship skills especially in line with the UN sustainable development goals. I believe that having a vision and knowing how to implement it will lead more African women to become tech innovation giants, creating products and services that can compete in global markets.
