I used to get flustered when this question was posed to me. I realize now that I struggled with that question because I didn’t know who I was… or even if I did, I struggled with articulating what my reality was. Here we are again and that famous query pops up yet again. This is how I see myself… others may think differently (hopefully not) but this is a journey so hopefully we will arrive at the same place about me. So here goes
I have spent the last 20 years working as a Communicator and Brand Builder. In this regard, I have built a repertoire of skills around Advertising, Marketing & PR. In those 20 years also, I have had the privilege to work on some of the most interesting Brand Campaigns in Kenya and even if they were not directly on my docket I have seen them developed in the Organisations where I plied my trade. My core competency is relationship management. You can simply refer to me as the Primary Client Service Executive for the Agency of Record. I am the guy who manages the client-agency relationship.
This is probably one of the most thankless jobs in the Agency Environment because everyone else gets the credit when I do my job well and I become invisible. But in that time I also branched out into Media Investment and the analytics required to place content and product ads in the correct media channels so that they would align with the brand messaging. I have realized that everyone in this life is trying to get their voice heard. But how do you do that in a voice that is filled with so much clutter. This is the crux of the matter and the reason why clients hire people like me, to distill their essence into one common belief system that can be shared easily.
