About

Hello, my name is Michael. I’ve experienced the gap between vision and on-the-ground reality in the African startup ecosystem. I know how often decisions don’t translate to actionable steps. I help founders translate vision into reality.

Currently building on-the-ground agricultural communities across East Africa, leading operations for a 125-person VC-backed startup. Creating 0 -> 1 and 1 -> 2 in finance, logistics, HR, partnerships, and sales. Resulted in top-tier talent pipelines (12% accepted from 500+) and conversion rates (20%+). To date, I have 10x’ed partnerships with leading international institutions (Mastercard, NASDAQ, Miller Center) and Ivy League Universities.

My focus areas center on helping founders move from an idea to effective operations. Interested in (1) coaching founders as a sounding board, (2) talent acquisition and team building, (3) agriculture and supply chain operations, (4) budgeting and cash flow management, and (5) institutional partnership development.

What excites me most is sharing hard-won insights from building in challenging markets like Malawi: disseminating practical experience that doesn’t make it into b-school case studies but makes the difference between scaling and failing.

Mentorship motivation

  • I like to learn about industries and new businesses
  • I want to give back to the startup ecosystem and entrepreneurs coming up
  • I want to make new connections for myself and/or the organization I represent
  • I want to scout for new opportunities in engaging as an advisor or for a board seat

Building on-the-ground in East Africa has shown me that proximity to problems reveals realities founders will miss from a distance. I’m motivated to share these insights with entrepreneurs navigating similar challenges.
